Feedback Flashcards
Name six types of feedback
Intrinsic, extrinsic, positive, negative, knowledge of results and knowledge of performance
Describe intrinsic feedback
Information given to the performer internally from their sensory system involving kinaesthetic awareness
Evaluate intrinsic feedback
:) Good or autonomous performers who understand their kinaesthetic awareness as they can receive feedback concurrently
:( Can be demotivating for a cognitive learner who doesn’t understand their kinaesthetic feedback accurately
Describe extrinsic feedback
Information given to a performer from an external source e.g. coach or spectator
Evaluate extrinsic feedback
:) can be used to motivate and strengthen desirable S-R bonds
:( performers may become too reliant and if the feedback is inaccurate then performance will decline
Describe positive feedback
Information relating to a desired performance often in the form of praise and rewards to strengthen the S-R bond
Evaluate positive feedback
:) Can improve motivation and confidence
:( Too much is ineffective especially if the performer become reliant
Describe negative feedback
Information regarding an undesirable performance which can be both motivational and demotivating
Evaluate negative feedback
:) Burger effect can increase motivation to improve
:( Too much can hinder performance and participation
Describe knowledge of results
Extrinsic information which relates to the outcome of a performance
Evaluate knowledge of results
:) Essential for cognitive performers to understand their performance
:( Constant failure can lead to learned helplessness
Describe knowledge of performance
Feedback focused on the pattern of movement
Evaluate knowledge of performance
:) Can be intrinsic and extrinsic as well as terminal or concurrent
:( Must be accurate or performance will decline
How can effective performance be ensured?
- Relatable to the performer
- Not too much info given at once
- Feedback must be given as soon as possible
- Facilitate and encourage kinaesthesis
How does feedback relate to personality?
NACH (Need to achieve): look at feedback constructively
NAF (Need to avoid failure): more likely to see feedback negatively
