What is peace?
peace is not just the absence of war but is a state of harmony amongst citizens
What is justice?
fairness and where all people have equal rights, opportunities and a fair distribution of resources
What is the sanctity of life?
that life is made holy by god and human life is scared
What are the causes of war?
territory
regime change
keeping an agreement with another country

What is a holy war?
believing it is right to fight a war in the name of god, e.g. crusades, the soldiers who were Christians believed they are fighting for a just cause; gain back holy land
What is a just war?
a war that is fought to establish peace, it has a just cause and there are restrictions on what you can and cannot do in the war.
What is a pacifist?
someone who believes all war and killing is wrong

What is it like for a refuge?
some have been maimed and live in camps with poor sanitary conditions, illness and rape
What are the organisations that help victims of war?
Red cross/crescent
Medicin sans frontieres
They provide short term aid, set up hospitals, provide food and shelter, and they establish refugee camps
What would a religious believer do?
Pray, march, petition,
Dalai Lama is recognised around the world as a symbol of peace, condones physical violence and believes peace only exists when people respect each other
What are peacekeeping forces?
United nations security council, protects human rights, ensures free elections, establishes sanctions on countries with human right abuses, use military action to protect civilians
Un peacekeepers help monitor peace agreements and create stable democratic governments
What is terrorism?
is an act of violence often against civilians which is intended to create fear
