Q5:Anatomy of Thigh, Hip, Pelvis Flashcards
Bones in the thigh, hip, pelvis
Femur
Pelvis
Longest & strongest bone
designed to permit maximum mobility & support during locomotion
Femur
2 innominate bones
sacrum
coccyx
innominate bones are composed of three bones that ossify & fuse early in life
illium
pubis
ischium
superiorly & posteriorly of the 3 bones that make up the innominate bones
ilium
anterior of the 3 bones that make innominate bones
pubis
inferiorly of the 3 bones that make up the innominate bones
ischium
lodged btwn the innominate bones is the (5 fused vertebrae)
sacrum (pelvis)
composed of 4 or 5 small, fused vertebral bodies that articulate with the sacrum
coccyx (pelvis)
Joints of the thigh, hip, & pelvis
hip
sacroiliac (SI) joint
head of femur w acetabulum of the innominate bone
surrounding the rim is the labrum
Ligaments that reinforce this joint are
- iliofemoral
- pubofemoral
- ischiofemoral
Hip joint
fibrocartilage surrounding the rim
labrum
strongest ligament in the body
prevents hyperextension, controls external rotation & ADDuction of thigh
(Y ligament of Bigelow)
Iliofemoral ligament
Prevents excessive ABDuction of thigh
pubofemoral ligament
prevents excessive internal rotation
ischiofemoral ligament
