fall on an outstretched wrist

scaphoid (navicular) fracture moi
pain
point tender over the anatomical snuffbox
swelling
pain elcited by upward pressure of the thumb and by radial deviation
s/s of scaphoid (navicular) fracture
PRICEMM
x-ray
(may not show a fracture for a period of time i.e. 2 weeks or longer)
splint for 4-6 weeks
TX of Scaphoid (navicular) fracture
often mistaken for a wrist sprain & therefore is not treated correctly.
May result in AVN
degeneration,
osteoporosis of the scaphoid
(Preiser’s disease)
