Statistical infrequency
A
- Numerical unusual behaviour or characteristic
- Example, IQ below 70, being more depressed or less intelligent than most people

Deviation from social norms
A
- Social judgements about what is normal or acceptable in society.
- Some cultures may differ on what is normal and accepted (E.g homosexuality)
- Impulsive, aggressive and irresponsible behaviour is not accepted in most cultures

Failure to function adequately
A
- Inability to cope with demands of everyday life
- Inconsistent to social rules, personal distress, danger to self and others
- Failing to function is part of IDD diagnosis and low IQ.

Deviation from ideal mental health
A
- When someone does not meet a set of criteria for good mental health
- Lack of symptoms, self-actualisation, coping with stress and negative world view
