- Brain and spinal cord
- Origin of all complex commands and decisions

- Sends info to the CNS from outside world
- Transmits messages from CNS to body muscles and glands in the body

Somatic nervous system (SNS)
A
- Transmits info from receptor cells in the sense organs to CNS
- Receives info from CNS and governs muscle movement

Automatic nervous system (ANS)
A
- Transmits info to and from internal bodily organs
- Autonomic meaning it operates involuntary
- Governs vital functions like breathing, heart rate, digestion, sexual arousal and stress responses
- Parasympathetic state and Sympathetic state
