populations abiotic and biotic factors Flashcards
What is a population?
= group of organisms of the same species, living in the same habitat
What is the habitat?
= part of an ecosystem where a particular organism lives
What is a community?
= all populations of different species, in the same area at the same timw
What is an ecosystem?
= a community
= the living
= and the non-living components of an environment , ecosystems can range in sizes
What is a niche?
= an organisms role within an ecosystem
e.g: position on food web, habitat
= each species occupies their own niche governed by adaptation to abiotic and biotic factors
What is the carrying capacity?
= the maxmimum population size a ecosystem can support
What are abiotuc factors?
= non living conditions in an ecosystem
What are biotic factors?
= living components of an ecisystem interacting withb eachither
= intrapsecific ccompeition
= interspecific competion
What is interpsecific competition?
= when members of different species, are in competition for the same reasource, that is in limited supply
= habitat.food water ect..
= individual more beter adapted to the environment is more likley to suceed
What is intraspecific competition?
= members of the same species are in competition for reasources and a mate
= competition for a mate is linked to courtship behaviour
= more fitter individuals have more energy to perform more impressive rituals, ay have better fur or wings
what is the pattern of predator prey graphs?
= size of predator and prey fluctuate
= rhere is more prey than predatirs
= size of population will always change in prey than predatirs- time lag
What are the examples of abiotic factors?
= temperature
= oxygen
= carbon dioxide concentration
= light intensity
= PH
= soil
How do plants and annimals are suitable for these abiotic fctors?
= adapted
= develop through process of natural selection
What does less harsh abiotic fctors mean?
= larger population sizes
= more biodiversity
= varietu of species, food avaliability, habitats and niches,
