Nervous communication Flashcards
What is localisation?
= pathways are usually localised tothe part of the body where the reflux occurs
Why are electrical imoulses fast?
= does not involve many synpases- these are slow, synpase between sensory and relay and motor but does not go all the way up to the brain
= only 3 nuerons involved
What is the relay nueron?
= an intermediate nueron, that carries electrical impulses to the motor nueron
= coordinator
What are refluxes controlled by?
= controlled by simple nureon pathways
Whathappens if there is excesisve electrical impulses?
= these get sent to the brain
= overrrides rhe response
What does the CNS involve?
= spinal cord and the brain
what are receptors?
= detect stimuli
what are effectors?
= carries out a repsonse
= muscle contraction cells found in glands
What do sensory neurons do?
= transmit electrical impulses from the receptor to the CNS, the brain and the spinal cord
What do motor nuerons do?
= electrical impulses from the CNs and to the effectors
What do relay neurons do?
= electrical impulses between sensory nuerons and motor nuerons
What is the simple nueron pathway?
= stimulus, receptors, sensory nueron, CNS, motor nueron, effector response
What are the advantages of a reflux?
= rapid
= does not require concious thought of the brain
= does not need to be learnt
= protects from a stimulus/danger
