Pneumoconiosis Flashcards
The dust is toxic to ? (the normal defence for inhaled dusts), thus
there will be a local inflammatory response similar to that seen in ????.
If this becomes ?, there will also be ? leading to ? lung disease.
? are the main dusts causing industrial pulmonary fibrosis, often mixed with ?.
The risk of developing ? ? pneumoconiosis is related to the degree
of ? to dust.

Simple coal worker’s pneumoconiosis;
-Presence of ? nodules (2-5mm) on ?, not associated with any ?

progressive massive fibrosis
Progressive massive fibrosis (PMF);
-Presence of large nodules (>?mm) on ?, and the disease progresses relentlessly leading to a mixed ? and ? pattern.
It may present ? after active exposure to coal dust, and culminates in
? (dyspnoea and cough productive of sputum, sometimes ?).
This can progress to ? failure.
? is available to patients with PMF.
