plant reproduction Flashcards
What does the male part or stamen consist of?
It consists of the anther and filament
Name the five stages of plant reproduction
- Pollination
- Fertilisation
- Seed and fruit formation
- Seed dispersal
- Germination
Whats does the female part or carpel consist of ?
It consists of the stigma , style and ovary
Where is pollen made?
Pollen was made in the anther of the stamen
Where is the egg made?
The egg is made in the ovary of the carpel
What is pollination?
Pollination is the transfer of pollen from the anther of the stamen to the stigma of the carpel
How are plants pollinated?
Plants are pollination by either insects or wind.
What is fertilisation?
Fertilisation is the fusion of the pollen nucleus with the egg nucleus
Explain seed and fruit formation.
The fertilised egg becomes the seed and the ovary swells and becomes the fruit
Why are seeds dispersed ?
Seeds are dispersed to avoid competition for space , light , water and minerals
How are seeds dispearsed?
Seeds are dispersed by animal, wind , self dispersal and water
What is germination?
Germination is the growth of a seed into a new plant
What is asexual reproduction?
Asexual reproduction only involves one parent , such as strawberries send out runners.
what is needed for germination
water , heat and oxygen
