Purpose of SOP for Sky Harbor aviation emergencies.
Establish guidelines for the response of personnel and equipment to aircraft emergency situations at Sky Harbor Airport, outlining responsibilities, dispatch terminology, apparatus response, standby locations, and staging areas.
Alert 1
Minor difficulties with a safe landing expected
Alert 2
Major difficulties w/ a difficult or crash landing expected.
Alert 3
Crash or high probability of a crash.
Type of response determined for aviation emergencies?
Dictated by a fire captain at PFD 19, who assesses information received from the FAA Control Tower or other sources and directs fire Dispatch to send the appropriate level of alert response.
Response for Alert 2 aviation emergencies.
Foam 1, Foam 2, Foam 3, Attack 19, E19, BC19, three off-airport engine companies (one of which will be ALS), and 1 Ladder company.
Categories used to define aircraft emergenciest?
Alert 1, Alert 2, and Alert 3, as defined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide standard descriptions and terminology for aircraft emergencies.
Role of Squad 19 and Attack 19 in aviation emergencies.
Squad 19: Smaller, more mobile unit for dispatches to medical, car fires, and special duty calls.
Attack 19: Foam truck used for fuel spills and alerts.
Response and standby positions for Alert 1’s in aviation emergencies?
Station 19 with Foam 2 out of Station 29, along with other units, will handle emergencies and respond to their ARFF staging locations along the runway.
How are off-airport units directed to respond in Alert 2’s and Alert 3’s?
In Alert 2’s, off-airport units will respond to Gate 118 - east of Fire Station 29 for Level II staging. In Alert 3’s, off-airport units will respond directly to the crash site, unless directed to a level two staging area.
