Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

What is the word equation for photosynthesis?

A

Carbon Dioxide+Water
=Glucose+Oxygen

CO2+H2O= C6H12O6+O2

Light energy and chlorophyll is on the arrow from water to glucose

Q

What experiment can you do to work out the ideal conditions for photosynthesis in a certain plant?

A
  • Take a water plant like Canadian pondweed
  • Measure amount of oxygen produced in a given time to show how fast photosynthesis is happening
  • Test out all the limiting factors and see which produces the slowest photosynthesis
  • Count bubbles of oxygen being produced

Q

How do greenhouses provide ideal conditions?

A
  • Trap suns heat so temperature always perfect, can use a heater (if too cold) or shades (if too hot)
  • Supply artificial light in the night
  • Paraffin heater heats greenhouse and makes carbon dioxide
  • Enclosed so no pests and diseases
  • Add fertilisers to the plants
