Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide+Water
=Glucose+Oxygen
CO2+H2O= C6H12O6+O2
Light energy and chlorophyll is on the arrow from water to glucose
What is produced by photosynthesis?
Glucose
What is photosynthesis?
Process by which food is produced in plants
Where does photosynthesis happen?
Chloroplasts
What do chloroplasts contain?
Chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen
What is a limiting factor?
Factor that stops photosynthesis from happening the fastest rate
What are the limiting factors?
- Temperature
- Carbon Dioxide
- Sunlight
- Water
What experiment can you do to work out the ideal conditions for photosynthesis in a certain plant?
- Take a water plant like Canadian pondweed
- Measure amount of oxygen produced in a given time to show how fast photosynthesis is happening
- Test out all the limiting factors and see which produces the slowest photosynthesis
- Count bubbles of oxygen being produced
How can you make ideal conditions for plants?
Greenhouse
How do greenhouses provide ideal conditions?
- Trap suns heat so temperature always perfect, can use a heater (if too cold) or shades (if too hot)
- Supply artificial light in the night
- Paraffin heater heats greenhouse and makes carbon dioxide
- Enclosed so no pests and diseases
- Add fertilisers to the plants
