Diffusion Flashcards
1
Q
What is diffusion?
A
Spreading out of particles from an area of high concentration to low concentration
2
Q
What diffuses into an animal cell?
A
- During respiration, oxygen is being used so will diffuse into the cells whilst CO2 is being produced so will diffuse out of the cell
- In digestion, glucose, fatty acids and amino acids will diffuse from the small intestine into the bloodstream
- Water being absorbed back into the body from the large intestine
3
Q
What diffuses into the plant cells?
A
- In the leaf, CO2 will diffuse into the leaf through the stomata whilst oxygen diffuses out
- Water being lost in leaves from transpiration
- Water being taken in from the soil into the roots
4
Q
What can diffuse through the cell membrane?
A
Glucose
Oxygen
Amino acids
Water
5
Q
What can’t diffuse through the membrane?
A
Starch and proteins
