ACORN Standards
Standard 1:
Perioperative attire shall replace all outer
garments and shall be worn correctly at all times

• Ensure all undergarments are covered
• Change into clean attire daily/when soiled
• Do not wear perioperative attire outside of the HCF
Standard 3:
Perioperative attire shall be supplied and
laundered by the hospital

Head and facial hair shall be completely covered

Standard 5
Designated footwear shall comply with OH&S
standards and be of a design to permit appropriate cleaning
• Must provide full protection by being enclosed over
forefoot
• Clean shoes when soiled
Standard 6:
Disposable surgical masks with appropriate
filtration levels and eye protection shall be worn in designated
areas to protect against the risk of blood/bodily fluid spatter

• To be worn where a sterile field is being
prepared/used
• Apply mask securely to completely cover the nose
and mouth
• Avoid touching mask once applied
• Remove mask by touching ties/tapes only
• Wash hands following mask disposal
Standard 7:
Fingernails shall be kept clean, short and free from
artificial nails, nail additives and nail polish
