Performance Flashcards
In what scenarios do you include wind gusts and which do you only take the mean wind?
Include Gusts:
Maximum crosswinds, headwinds, tailwinds - Autoland, Contaminated RWY Ops, First Officer limitation,
Excluding Gusts:
APPR CORR (1/3 headwind component, max 15 knots), Performance calculations
What are the various APPR COR options?
Highest of:
5 kt in case of A/THR ON
10 kt in case of Ice Accretion in CONF 3
5 kt in case of Ice Accretion in CONF FULL
1/3 Headwind component (excluding gust - maximum 15 kt)
What aircraft configuration does the LANDING PERF app use when calculating the go around gradient?
At what default altitude is the go around gradient calculated?
Go Around Flaps configuration
One engine inoperative
Operating engine at TOGA thrust
Landing Gear Up
Calculated at 1500’ AAL
When is the SID All Engine Climb Gradient specified?
When it exceeds 3.3% (2.5%+0.8%)
What’s the STD ENG FAIL Procedure?
Climb on RWY track
Maintain V2. If at higher speed, maintain speed up to a maximum of V2+20
When Engine Secure AND >1000’ AAL, level off, accelerate, retract flaps
At Green Dot pull Open Climb, set MCT
When >1500’ AAL turn to ENG FAIL HP
In the event of an engine failure, when can you deviate off EOSID?
When above MSA or VMC and visual contact with ground
In the event of an engine failure during SID, what flight path do you adopt?
If above MSA or visual contact with ground, can turn directly to ENG FAIL HP or other holding point of choice
Above 1500’ when on SID, can turn nearest way to ENG FAIL HP.
(Above 1500’, radius of 30NM has been surveyed for obstacles.)
When does EOSID appear as temporary flight plan on MCDU?
When there is a common point between flight plan and EOSID. If not, will show on ND as yellow line that can be followed in selected mode until get chance to activate secondary.
What is the take off flap policy for all A/C types?
A319/320: CONF 1 + F –> CONF 2 –> CONF 3
A312: CONF 2 –> CONF 1 OR CONF 3
What RWY COND do you use in Performance App for Slippery When Wet?
Are there any limitations operating on such a runway?
Use SLIPPERY WET for Take Off and Landing Dispatch. No mention for Landing In Flight?
Max crosswind 25kt for Take Off
What corrections do you make to the FLEX temp during taxi for Engine Anti Ice and QNH change?
Engine A/ICE ON – subtract 5°C.
QNH Reduction – subtract 1°C/2 hPa.
If the OAT or TRef is reached by applying these corrections, redo calculation
What weights are used to calculate LMC?
Pax weight:
84kg (Male, female or child)
Baggage weight:
Cabin bag offload - 11kg
Checked bag - 11/13/15kg
What quantity of LMC passengers mandate a new load sheet?
+10 or -20
What LMC values do not require a recalculation of take off performance?
Negative or positive <250kg
AND
ZFCG +/-2%
Basic description of Dispatch Landing Performance and In Flight Landing Performance
Dispatch:
Max allowable landing weight permitted which is considered for weight and balance
In Flight:
Determines Factored Landing Performance. Allows flight crew to best select landing flap, thrust reverser and braking mode
Standard missed approach gradient
2.5%
For Dispatch Landing Performance, how is the Required Landing Distance calculated?
Actual Landing Distance ALD (test pilot, approach speed VRef, ISA, MAX MANUAL, Rev inop for DRY/WET, Rev op for CONTAM) x regulatory factor
RLD DRY = ALD DRY X 1.67
RLD WET = ALD DRY X 1.92
RLD CONTAM = ALD CONTAM X 1.15
What should you do if Landing Dispatch Performance cannot be satisfied at destination?
Firstly, check performance app is using VApp as Vref, as pre regulations. It will default to A/THR ON giving VApp of VLS=5kts.
If still not satisfied, and this is due to surface wind or runway surface (still air dispatch landing calculation is satisfied) then can proceed if take fuel for 2 Destination Alternates where Landing Dispatch Perf is satisfied.
Define VRef
1.23 x VS1g
Reference speed used for normal final approach - 1.23 × VS of CONF FULL.
Displayed on the MCDU APPR page, if landing is planned in CONF FULL (VLS CONF FULL).
Define VApp
Final approach speed.
Displayed on MCDU APPR page.
Calculated by the FMGCs.
Represents : VAPP = VLS + wind correction
The wind correction is limited to a minimum of 5 kt and a maximum of 15 kt
During autoland or when A/THR is on or in case of ice accretion or gusty crosswind greater than 20 kt, VAPP must not be lower than VLS +5 kt
Define VLS
Lowest Selectable Speed.
Computed by the FAC, based on FMS, and corresponds to 1.13 VS during takeoff, or following a touch and go.
Becomes 1.23 VS, after retraction of one step of flaps.
Becomes 1.28 VS, when in clean configuration.
Define F/S speed
Minimum speed at which the flaps/slats may be retracted at takeoff.
In approach, used as a target speed when the aircraft is in CONF 2/3 /CONF1
What speed gives max gradient of climb?
Green Dot
What speed gives max rate of climb?
~Turbulence penetration speed
Actually somewhere between ECON CLB speed and Green Dot - manual says use Turb pen speed
What is the REC MAX FL calculation based on?
0.3g buffet margin
