Memory items & associated systems Flashcards

Q

What are the memory actions of LOSS OF BRAKING ?

A

When flight crew do not perceive deceleration when required

“Loss of braking”

Reverse = > Max

Release brake pedals

“Anti skid nose wheel steering off”

Brakes pedals = > Press

ABCU automatically limits pressure to 1000 psi

If still no braking:
Park brake => Use

Q

What are the memory actions of EMER DESCENT ?

A

When confirmation that cabin altitude & rate of climb are excessive and uncontrollable

Must rely on CAB PR EXCESS CAB ALT

“Emergency descent”

Masks on

Establish communication

PM:

Signs => On

PF:

ALT => Turn Pull

HDG => Turn Pull

SPD => Pull

FMA => Announce (PM: Check FMA)

If A/THR not active - Thrust levers => Idle

Speed brake => Full

Follow up with QRH

  • Only increase speed if no structural damage
  • If obvious cabin alt will exceed 14,000’, can press it early
  • “Attention Crew at stations” when possible

When level:

  • Reset mask mic by closing left hand door AND resetting slide controller
  • “Senior cabin crew member to the flight deck” - get pax sitrep and do NITS

Q

What are the memory actions of STALL RECOVERY ?

A

First sign of the stall - aural warning or buffet

“Stall, I have control”

Reduce angle of attack

Simultaneously level wings

When stall indications stop:
Thrust = > Increase smoothly
Speedbrakes = > Check retracted

When sufficient energy:

Flight Path = > Recover smoothly

If clean and below 20000ft :
Flaps 1 => Select

Q

What are the memory actions of STALL AT LIFT OFF ?

A

“Stall TOGA 15”

Thrust = > TOGA

Pitch attitude => 15°

Bank => Wings level

If stall warning continues after safe flight path & speed achieved, consider spurious

Q

What are the memory actions of UNRELIABLE SPEED ?

A

If the safe conduct of the flight is impacted

“Unreliable speed”

AP => OFF

A/THR => OFF

FD => OFF

Below thrust red alt => 15°/TOGA
Above thrust red alt but below FL100 => 10°/CLB
Above thrust red alt and above FL100 => 5°/CLB

If CONF FULL select CONF3 otherwise maintain current CONF

Speedbrakes => Check retracted

L/G => UP

At or above MSA/Circuit Alt => Level off for troubleshooting

Q

What are the memory actions of GPWS/EGPWS CAUTION?

(terrain terrain, too low terrain, caution terrain or caution obstacle)

A

During Night/IMC:

“Pull up TOGA”

AP=> OFF

Pitch => Full backstick

Thrust levers => TOGA

Speedbrakes => Check retracted

Bank => Wings level or adjust

Do not change A/C config until clear of obstacle

During daylight and VMC with terrain in sight:

Flight Path => Adjust to silence alert

Q

What are the memory actions of GPWS/EGPWS CAUTION?

(SINK RATE/GLIDE SLOPE/DONT SINK)

A

Above 1000ft IMC OR above 500ft VMC:

Flight path => Adjust

Below 1000ft IMC or below 500ft VMC:

Go around => Consider

What are the memory actions of GPWS/EGPWS WARNING (Pull Up, Terrain ahead Pull up, Avoid terrain) ?

A

“PULL UP TOGA”

AP => OFF

PITCH => Full backstick

THRUST LEVERS => TOGA

Speedbrakes => Check retracted

BANK => Wings level or adjust

DO NOT CHANGE config until clear of obstacle

Q

What are the memory actions of TCAS WARNINGS ?

A

Without AP TCAS:

TA:

“TCAS I HAVE CONTROL”

RA:
AP => OFF
FD => OFF (call A/THR Speed)
Pitch to the green

With AP TCAS:

TA:

“TCAS Blue”

If A/THR off - A/THR => On

RA:

If AP off - Follow FD orders, can engage AP

Vertical speed => Monitor

If V/S doesn’t reach green - AP => disconnect

Do not try to see the traffic

Always respect stall, GPWS & windshear

Q

What are the memory actions of WINDSHEAR ?

Both airborne and also at take off

A

Take off:

Before V1 with significant airspeed variations:

Reject

After V1:

Thrust lever => TOGA
At VR => Rotate
SRS Order => Follow

Airborne, climb and landing:

Thrust lever => TOGA
AP => Keep on
SRS => Follow SRS

PM commentate on performance

DO NOT change config until out of windshear

If no FD, pitch to 17.5°

For approach in W/S conditions, use CONF3 if possible - better G/A climb gradient

Q

What are the actions following an engine failure during cruise?

A

MASHO

All thrust to MCT

A/THR => Disconnect

Speed => Pull (0.78/300kt OR Green Dot)

HDG => Pull

Open Descent => Pull

ECAM => Do!

Standard Strategy - Recommended max EO cruise alt (MAX EO on PROG page) {PROB do this}

When Vs less than 500 ft/min set VS-500ft/min and pull

A/THR on

Drift Down Strategy - Drift down ceiling (MAX EO on PERF CRZ page)

When clear of obstacles, revert to Standard Strategy

If level, after setting MCT, there’s a thrust margin, then don’t need to do above actions as will be below Single Engine Ceiling - no need to descend

After sorted engine fail and want to divert in Open Descent, remember to put A/THR back in!

A
  • ADR CHECK PROC on ECAM
  • Flight crew detect weird behaviour without ECAM related to pitot static instruments, AP or A/THR, stall warning, overspeed
