Pelvic Floor Flashcards
pelvic floor organs
lower urinary tract- bladder/ urethra
lower gastrointesternial- rectum/ anal canal
reporductive organs- utrues/ vagina/ prostate
pelvic floor functions
support pelvic organs
support abdominal organs
back stability
anterior pelvis cavity
bladder/ urethra
middle pelvis cavity
uterus/ vagina/ prostate
posterior pelvis cavity
rectum/ anal canal
pelvic floor decription
dome shaped muscular sheet- seperates the pelvic cavity from perineal region
made from muscle and fascia
support pelvic and abdominal viscera
increase intraabdominal pressure and help maintain
act as sphincters
assists in child birth- gutter for head of foetus
Muscles of pelvic floor
levator ani
-illiocygetus- ilium to coccyx on both sides
- pubococcygeus- pubis to coccyx
- puboerectalis- acts as a sling- wraps around anal canal acts a sphincter pubis to pubis
cocygeus- more posterior
fascia
complex web of lose connective tissue, adipose tissue, smooth muscle
help maintain organs in place
provide condurit for nerves and blood vessels to go to organs
endopelvic fascia
pubocervical- between bladder/ urethra/ vagina
rectovargina- b/w rectum and vagina and bladder and prostate
uterosaval ligament- suspends/ supports uterus and cervix in place
perinium
superfical
anal triangle
b/w pubis symphysis and coccyx
skeletal muscle/ fascia
types of perineal
body- anterior/ posterior
brus of penis
corpus sponjosum
anal triangle
external and sphincter
urogenital triangle
iscchiocaveronus- towards ischium
bulbosponginous- most medial base of male penis
superfical transverse perineal
deep transverse perineal
provide closure to vagina and anus
support/fix perineal body
maintain erection of penis and clitoris
perineal body
irregular fibromuscular mass
midline b/w anus and vagina/ bulb of penis
site of muscle and fascia attachment site to form pelvic floor
nerve supply
levator ani
pundenal gives input to muscles
muscle of perineal pudendal nerve to levator ani- gives some
