What is the major weakness?
Where does the 1st line get stretched to for cellar fires? First floor? Upper floors?
Open unenclosed stair is major weakness
Cellar fires- 1st line to entrance that gives quickest access to fire area
1st floor and upper floor fires 1st line goes thru main entrance

When do we use 2 1/2” lines
2nd line will remain outside and used to back up 1st line, can be used in cellar, other floors, or in exposures
2 1/2” line when wind impacted fires, or heavy fire in 1st floor in larger style homes (Queen Anne)

When do we use bilco doors?
When operating a line on the exterior do you start at the top or the bottom? Do you operate into windows?
Bilco doors are least desirable entrance, use only when its the only option
When operating line on the exterior use a sweeping motion side to side starting at the top and do NOT operate into windows

Who checks the cellar for fire? If unable to do so who do they notify?
True 1st LCC of a TL will remain at pedestal
1st ladder should check cellar for fire, if unable notify 2nd ladder (2nd ladder ensures cellar is checked)

Peaked roof, 1st roof and ov team up and do a perimeter, if no life hazard showing, enter room most likely to be occupied

Can you use a power saw on a portable ladder?
Cutting a peaked roof with axe, on what side (windward,leeward) and how big is the hole?
Peaked roof 2nd ladder cuts the roof
Power saw only from TL bucket

2nd roof- saw and halligan hook

When do we operate a line into the cellar window?
1-unable to gain access or advance line via interior stairs
2-unable to locate any cellar entrance
3-serious or advanced cellar fire
4-cellar fire involving light weight construction
*do not operate line into cellar windows when member are operating in cellar, unless in an emergency line members trapped by fire or collapse

Who can order a line to be withdrawn from the 1st floor and reposition it to a cellar entrance?
If a line is withdrawn do all ladder need to be withdrawn too?
Only a chief or acting chief
Ladder on first floor must be withdrawn, ladders operating on floors above may have to be in no portables are positioned

When the 1st line is using the interior stairs for a cellar fire where does the 1st ladder operate? If engine needs help who can help? Where does the 2nd ladder operate?
1st ladder will perform primary search of 1st floor while engine is making way down stairs. 1 member from 1st ladder can assist. 2nd ladder will augment search and vent all floors above cellar

Top floor fire where does 2nd ladder operate?
Visually check cellar windows, dont break unless ordered to

In the attic should you vent knee walls?
LCC at peaked roof will help with portables where?
2nd ladder roof and ov will vent peaked roof when necessary
Yes open knee walls, not near the stairs though
LCC at peaked roof will help with portables at the front and sides, NOT rear
