Engine Ops Flashcards

1
Q

What tools are carried by all engine members?

How much psi do you test hose up to?

Winter ops, when does the engine go in the block after the truck?

A

Spanner, chocks, hose strap carried by all

Test hose up to 250psi

When a building is over 3 stories high the truck enters the block first for winter ops. 3 stories or less the engine goes first
*a dead end is the other exception to the engine entering the block first

Q

How much more water do you get from a dresser hydrant?

What hydrant connection gives the largest water flow? Least?

What connection is used for drafting

A

10-15% more

Largest flow is the yellow 35’
Least is 3 1/2” hose

Q

What size hose and what size butts are high pressures hose?

Engines must carry how many lengths of 1 3/4”, 2 1/2”, and 3 1/2”?

On what end of the hose do you find the unit and registration number?

A

3” hose with 3” butts

1 3/4”= 20
2 1/2”= 30
3 1/2” = 10

Male end has the unit and registration number
Female end has manufacture and date of issuance

Q

When would a 1 3/4” line not be appropriate? (5)

A

1- advance fire on arrival
2- large uncompartimentalized spaces
3- officer cannot determine size or extent of fire
4-large volume of water required for superheated area
5-line purely for defensive purposes

Q

What’s the difference between rolling hose to be sent out and rolling hose to be stored?

When doing a fire escape stretch the line should be secured with a hose strap every other floor starting where?

A

Rolled to sent out, male butt gets rolled inside
Rolled for storage both butts on the outside

Hose secured with hose strap starting on floor below the fire

Q

Hose test
What side of rig do you connect to?
How many lengths from pumper to manifold
How many lengths off of each gated outlet?
What psi and for how long?
What gauge do you use (manifold gauge or hose test gauge)

A
Connect to side opposite the panel
2 lengths from pumper to manifold
6 lengths max from manifold
250 psi for 5 min
Use gauge from the hose test kit

Q

How many gpm to be considered a large caliber stream?

When can the 2nd engine stretch its own line (height and # of lengths)

If how more then how many lengths from standpipe needs to be in CIDS?

A

More then 300gpm

When building is 1 or 2 stories in height and stretch is 4 lengths or less, 2nd engine can stretch own line

More then 3 lengths from standpipe needs to be in CIDS

Q

Who will monitor radio and answer dispatch if the batt aide and div aide fail to do so?

Who can order a conventional engine to pump over 250psi?

A

The 2nd ECC

The IC can order a conventional engine to pump over 250psi. Conventional and high pressure engines are both 2nd stage, just high pressure engines have the high pressure equipment

How long to let the air out of an air pressurized stand pipe?

A

High pressure engine 600psi
3rd stage 700psi (3rd stage preferred at psi over 500, required over 600psi)
