When a pilot want to conduct en-route maintenance for non-commercial operations, he must ?

(a) Notify the aircraft maintenance engineer normally responsible for the maintenance of the aircraft to assist in -

(i) supplying parts, if required;
(ii) giving technical advice and
(iii) supplying maintenance publications, where required.

(b) and insure that any maintenance work done, is correctly recorded in the aircraft flight folio.

All compasses fitted to South African registered aircraft must be swung?

A

At 12 monthly intervals thereafter: provided other independent direction indicating systems are in use, the interval may be extended to 24 months, in such a case, the compass(es) shall be checked during each flight against such indicating system. Should deviation exceed 5 degrees the compass shall be swung.
