Q

Explain why low latitude locations receive more heat than places close to the poles

A

Low latitude locations receive more heat as its closer to the equator (the poles are further away)

Q

How is a high pressure area different to a low pressure area? How does the weather differ?

A

The areas are different as high pressure is all to do with dry weather and low pressure is all to do with cloud farming (wet conditions)

Q

How do atmospheric circulation cells move heat around the world?

A

A. The wind pushes the heat around the world

Notes:
Sun transfers heat to earths surface unevenly
High and low pressure
Wind moves from high pressure to places that have low pressure

B. Answer: The sun transfers heat unevenly to the earths surface and also wind moves from high pressure to places that have low pressure which spreads heat

Q

How do ocean currents move heat from the equator to the poles? How does the Gulf Stream work?

A

Oceans have a large scale movement and currents are caused by wind which help transfer heat away from the equator. The Gulf Stream brings warm weather from the Caribbean and keeps Western Europe warmer than it would otherwise be.

Q

Explain how atmospheric circulation causes high pressure areas (dry) places like Tindouf

A

A. Because high pressure causes dry weather

Notes:
High pressure = cool air becomes dense then falls and transfers heat to the ground

B. Places like Tindouf is dry because of high pressure because high pressure uses cool air which becomes dense then falls and transfers heat to the ground causing dry weather

Q

Explain how atmospheric circulation causes low pressures areas (wet) places like Singapore

A

A. Places like Singapore have low pressure areas as low pressure causes clouds which means more rainfall

Notes:
Low pressure = warm air (heated) rises and cools, condenses and forms clouds and rain occurs

B. Places like Singapore is wet due to low pressure which rises warm air and then cools down then it condenses and forms clouds which means more rainfall (wet weathers)
