4.2 Physical and Human Processes Flashcards
Compare the weathering that is found in the uplands and lowlands
?
Compare the soil/rock movement processes in the uplands and lowlands
The soil in the uplands are thin because there is less vegetation. The soil in the lowlands are thick (fertile soil) because there is more vegetation.
Compare misfit rivers and dry valleys (location, characteristics, formation)
Dry valleys are found in UK lowland landscapes. These are valleys with no streams visible (they flow underground in the permeable chalk). They formed during glacial periods when the colder climate led to more freeze-thaw weathering and glacial snow melt meant that streams had much more water in them than they do today.
Explain how glaciers have affected both landscapes
Glaciers have affected uplands by creating deep u-shaped valleys
Explain 2 ways humans have affected the Upland landscape
Humans have affected the upland landscape by sheep farming because the soil is too thin to grow any crops in the hills. Also settlement is affected by humans because there are not many houses as the lowlands.
Explain 2 ways humans have affected the Lowland landscape
?
Compare which landscape (up/low) have been affected more by humans
The upland landscape has been affected more by humans because not many people live there, except farmers. Also there is less vegetation due to the soil being to thin on the hills. There is a lot of rain making the land very wet to animals such as sheep.
