Pacemakers Flashcards
What is the power source of a pacemaker?
Battery unity called a pulse generator
What is a conducting wire of a pacemaker?
Electrode that goes to the heart to provide stimulus
What is the return wire of a pacemaker?
Wire that returns to the battery unit to complete electrical circuit
What are AV synchronous pacemakers?
Pacemakers that stimulate both the atria and ventricles in sequence
What are single chamber pacemakers?
Pacemaker that stimulate either the ventricles or the atria
What are dual chamber pacemakers?
Pacemaker that stimulates both atria and ventricles
What are two ways pacemakers initiate impulses?
Triggered
Inhibited
How do triggered pacemakers initiate impulses?
Fire impulses according to a predetermined plan regardless of patients underlying cardiac activity
What are two single chamber pacemakers?
Ventricular Demand Pacemaker (VVI)
Atrial Demand Pacemaker (AAI)
What do atrial demand pacemakers (AAI) do?
Senses and paces the atria
What does O mean recharging sensed chambers for pacemakers?
Neither atria nor ventricle were sensed
What do AV synchronous pacemakers (VDD) do?
Senses atrial and ventricular activity but paces only the ventricle
What are the three components of a pacemaker?
Power source
Conducting wire
Return wire
