Mass media campaigns
* Reach large numbers of people at less cost than face-to-face services
* Vary from simple motivational messages to more extensive educational campaigns. not one own health professional
* Effectiveness:
70% of people surveyed recalled messages
* Limitations:
Cost, people may ignore, negative perception

Community-Wide Campaigns
* Take mass media and “tailor” it to reach a targeted audience. Cancer survivors, old, fat
* Same principles apply
* Effectiveness:
* Better, because of tailoring
Limitations:
relevant only to specific people, less impactful, must be tailored correctly

Point-of-Decision Prompts
* Involves placing signs at points where people must choose between two activities. USE STAIRS
* Signs usually convey messages about benefits of PA
* Remind people they are about to have an opportunity to engage in PA
* Effectiveness:
* YES – for simple behaviours, like using stairs
* Limitations:
only effective for as long as the signs are posted
