What are some general signs associated with esophageal disease?
Dysphagia, pytalism, fetid breath, pharyngeal swelling, extended neck, discharge from nose
What is a congenital problem associated with the oropharynx?
Cleft palate (common in holstein and angus)
What is a secondary condition associated with cleft palate?
Aspiration pneumonia
What is the causative agent of Calf diphtheria (necrotic stomatitis)?
Fusobacterium necrophorum
What does necrotic stomatitis cause?
Diptheroid inflammation with erosions covered by a pseudo-membrane
Leads to laryngeal chondritis/abscessation
What is the tx for necrotic stomatitis?
High dose Ab (Procaine Penicillin SC or IM BID)
What are the two forms of Actinobacillosis?
Tongue form (wooden tongue)- most common in cattle Cutaneous form
What is the disease associated with acute severe cellulitis of oral mucosa and pharynx?
Pharyngeal phlegmon- picture of the cow with the swollen ventral neck
