What is orbital cellulitis?
A
Uncommon ophthalmic infection characterized by infection/inflammation of the soft tissues behind the orbital septum

What is prespetal cellulitis?
A
Much more common and less severe cellulitis

Causes of orbital cellulitis?
A
Pre-septal cellulitis
- Spread from periorbital structures
- Often can occur post-operatively

Symptoms of orbital cellulitis?
A
- Sudden onset of unilateral swelling of conjunctiva and lids
- Proptosis
- Pain on movement
- Relative afferent pupillary defect
- Fever
- Severe malaise

Diagnosis of orbital cellulitis?
A
CT which may show brain/orbital abscesses
-WBC Count

Treatment of pre-septal orbital cellulitis?
A
Oral co-amoxiclav

A
- IV antibiotics
- Test optic nerve function frequently
- Surgery
