Presnetation of episcleritis?

A

Acute onset unilateral symptoms:

  • Typically not painful
  • Segmental redness (usually red patch in lateral sclera)
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Dilated episcleral vessels
  • Watering of eye
  • No discharge
  • Nodules may occur

Management of average episcleritis?

A
  • Usually recovers in 1-4 weeks
  • Mild cases need no treatment
  • Lubricating eye drops can help symptomatically
  • Simple analgesia, cold compress & safety net device
