lactic acidosis, thrombocytopenia, vertigo, vomit, diarrhea
metformin nursing implications
do not give with radiologic contrast media > renal failure
no dofetilide > lactic acidosis
limit alcohol bc ^ lactic acidosis and low blood sugar
metformin can pass in breast milk
take with food to lower side effects

glyburide expected effect
cause beta cells of pancreas to release insulin leading to drop in blood glucose; may improve insulin binding to insulin receptors & increase number insulin receptors
glyburide dose
1.25-5mg single dose then increase at weekly intervals up to 20mg day
glyburide adverse effects
typical side effects, rash skin pruritus eczema, hypoglycaemia, hepatoxicity, jaundice, hepatic failure, penias
glyburide nursing considerations
hypo/hyper runs after meals
check blood sugar, CBC
evauluate: lower sugar, decrease polyuria, polydipsia
teach: symptoms jaundice, blood glucose testing, take in morning to prevent hypo at night, photosensitivity, diabetes lifelong, food diet plan and emergency sugar packets, report bleeding brushing weight gain edema
