Who was Elizabeth Barton?
She was known as the Holy Maid of Kent and she had visions of the Virgin Mary. People used her to undermine Henry’s marriage to Anne Boleyn.
What happened to Elizabeth Barton?
She was executed on 21st April 1534, on the same day that people had to swear to the Oath of Succession.
Who was Thomas More?
He was a die hard Catholic and was appointed Lord Chancellor in 1529 after the fall of Wolsey.
How did Thomas More oppose the Reformation?
In 1532 after the submission of the clergy he resigned as Lord Chancellor and in 1534 he refused to swear the Oath of Succession.
What happened to Thomas More?
He was imprisoned and interrogated three times but he never said anything so he couldn’t be charged. He was then visited by the Solicitor General and More allegedly said something to him which was used to convict him. In July 1535 he was executed.
Who was John Fisher?
A well respected scholar and bishop but was executed in 1535 when the Pope decided to make him a cardinal.
What was the Lincolnshire rebellion against?
The dissolution of the monasteries, taxes and visitations. It was against Cromwell, not Henry and 10,000 people were involved, it also had links to the Pilgrimage of Grace.
What was the Pilgrimage of Grace?
30,000 people were involved and that included nobles, gentry and commoners. The rebellion was against the dissolution of the monasteries and wanted a regional parliament.
How was the Pilgrimage of Grace handled by Henry?
Henry executed the leaders, took land off some and he just pardoned others.

What happened to monks after the Reformation?
Most monks retired or moved country but some were outspoken against the Reformation and some of these were arrested and executed.
