What was the chamber used for?
It was used to manage Henry’s finances. This was a medieval style of financial management but Henry used it to stop people stealing from him.
How many members were in the Royal Council?
There were 227 councillors but there was only 7-24 regular attendees and these formed the inner circle.

The inner circle of nobles who advised Henry.

An essential aspect of government that can grant extra tax if necessary.

It is a court of law separate from the kings council taking cases relating to instances of public order.

A form of government with a monarch at the head.
What was the Council Learned in the Law?
Introduced in 1495 to defend Henry’s position as a feudal landlord. They were tax and debt collectors.

Why did Henry use nobles who weren’t originally on his side at Bosworth to run the regional councils?
He used nobles who weren’t loyal to do this as they wouldn’t be able to cause any trouble as they had been moved away from everyone they knew. The Earl of Surrey was put in control of the North in 1489.
What were JPs?
They were men who kept the peace. They were responsible for public order.
What was a usurper?
A person who takes a position of power illegally through force and this is what Henry did at Bosworth.
Why did Henry VII have such a small circle of advisors?
Previous kings used to have a much larger circle but Henry didn’t trust the nobles so he kept them at arms length, this is one of the reasons why Henry is sometimes viewed as anti-noble.

Did parliament ever not grant Henry VII what he wanted?
Yes, in 1504 Henry was only granted £40,000 instead of the £90,000 he wanted.
