Orbital cellulitis
Presents as unilateral onset swelling, proptosis and reduced eye movement
Drusen
Yellow exudates seen in DARMD
Ectropian
Outwards turning of the eyelid that causes soreness and eye watering
Acute glaucoma
- severe pain
- vomiting
- red eye
- decreased visual acuity
Acute angle-closure glaucoma
Definitive treatment is with laser iridotomy
Anterior uveitis
- small fixed oval pupil
- ciliary flush and congestion
- associated rheumatology
Acanthamoeba
Pain out of proportion with clinical presentation and contact lens use
Retinitis pigmentosa
- night blindness
- tunnel vision
- family history
Argyll-Robertson pupil
Pupil accommodates but pupillary reflex is absent
- neurosyphilis
- diabetes mellitus
Blepharitis
- bilateral grittiness
- discomfort
- sticky in the morning
- manage with warm compress
Anisocoria
When worse on bright light implies a problem with the dilated pupil
Hutchinson’s sign
Vesicles from herpes zoster appearing on the nose and related to ocular involvement and anterior uveitis
Anterior uveitis
Managed with steroid and cycloplegic drops
Childhood squint
Refer to ophthalmology
Latanoprost
Increases uveoscleral outflow
