Used to manage intertrochanteric and extracapsular fractures

- back pain
- tender over L3-L4
- tend to lie on side knees flexed
- staph. aureus
Ankylosing spondylitis
One of the first symptoms is reduced lateral flexion of the spine
Dermatomyositis
Positive for anti-jo1 antibodies
5th metatarsal fractures
Lead to forced inversion of the foot and ankle
Rheumatoid arthritis
Common cause of bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome
L5 radiculopathy
Weakness of hip abduction and foot drop
Acute reactive arthritis
First line is with NSAIDs
Heberden’s nodes
Bony outgrowths on the distal interphalangeal joint associated with osteoarthritis
Osteomyelitis
Most commonly staph. aureus unless sickle cell anaemia and then salmonella
Sjogren’s syndrome
- dry mouth and eyes
- arthralgia
- anti-Ro antibodies
Dermatomyositis
- proximal muscle weakness
- macular rash over back and shoulders
- periorbital rash
- red papules over extensor surfaces
- ANA positive
Antiphospholipid syndrome
Managed with daily low-dose aspirin if no previous cases of thrombosis
Subacromial impingement
Presents with a painful arc of abduction
