A
  1. Potent, highly specific and selective serotonin 5-HT receptor antagonist
  2. Precise mode of action in control of nausea and vomiting is not known. Likely to have action peripherally and in the CNS
  3. Maximum effect is approximately 10 min following IV admin
  4. Hepatic metabolism

Ondansetron - Adverse effects (6)

A

Uncommon:

  1. Headache
  2. Flushing of skin
  3. Occasional reaction at the site of IV injection
  4. Drowsiness
  5. Anxiety and agitation
  6. Transient visual disturbances

Adult - 4mg IM/IV (over 2 min)
Paediatric - 0.1mg/kg to max 4mg IM/IV (over 2 min)
Can rep x 1 if req
