- Potent, highly specific and selective serotonin 5-HT receptor antagonist
- Precise mode of action in control of nausea and vomiting is not known. Likely to have action peripherally and in the CNS
- Maximum effect is approximately 10 min following IV admin
- Hepatic metabolism

For prevention or treatment of nausea and vomiting

Ondansetron - Adverse effects (6)
A
Uncommon:
- Headache
- Flushing of skin
- Occasional reaction at the site of IV injection
- Drowsiness
- Anxiety and agitation
- Transient visual disturbances

A
Known hypersensitivity

A
Not recommended in pregnancy

Adult - 4mg IM/IV (over 2 min)
Paediatric - 0.1mg/kg to max 4mg IM/IV (over 2 min)
