  1. Antiemetic, centrally acting on the brain stem
  2. Increases gastric emptying
    Onset IV 3-15 min, duration 30min

A
  1. Prevent vomiting
    - when narcotic analgesic is to be administered
    - high spinal injury
    - serious eye injury
    - suspected ischaemic chest pain
  2. Treat nausea and vomiting

Metoclopramide - Adverse effects (5)

A
Uncommon with usual doses, occasionally:
1.  Drowsiness
2. Lethargy
3. Dry mouth
4. Oculogyric crisis, facial spams
5. Speech difficulties
Side effects may be more common in dehydrated adolescents

A

A

Adult - 10mg (over 2 mins if IV)
Single dose only
Give prior to narcotic administration
