- Local anaesthetic effects
- Suppresses ventricular arrhythmias
SCI Onset 1-4 mins, max 5-10 mins
IV Onset 1-3 mins

A
- Local anaesthesia prior to invasive procedures
- VT with cardiac output in pts who cannot have amiodarone
- Flushing of a painful IO in an aware pt

Lignocaine - Adverse effects (2)
A
Extremely unlikely in usual subcutaneous doses. More likely in IV.
- CNS effects: stimulation followed by depression, drowsiness, agitation, muscle twitching, seizures, coma
- Cardiac effects: hypotension, bradycardia, heart block, asystole

Known hypersensitivity

Lignocaine - Dose (IO in aware pt)
A
Volume of 10mg/ml Neonate (3-4kg) - 0.2ml 0-1 yr (4-11kg) - 0.3ml 1-5 yr (11-19kg) - 0.7ml 5-12 yr (19-36kg) - 1.5ml 12+ yr (35+ kg) - 3ml Adult (80+ kg) - 4ml Subsequent dose as ½ of initial dose
