Hpylori eradication, ulceration, ulcer prophylaxis, NSAID associated ulcer/ prophylaxix, GORD, acid reflux, dyspepsia

IV administration and make up?

Answer 2

40mg vial with infusion fluid and dilure to 100ml with glucose 5% or sodium chloride 0.9%

intermittent: 40mg over 20-30 minutes

monitoring with long term treatment?

Answer 3

monitor serum magnesium concentrations before and during prolonged treatment
especially with dogoxin/ other drugs which can cause hypermagnesaemia

omeprazole side effects:

hypermagnesaemia, GI side effects, headache, insomnia, agranulocytosis, hallucinations, lupus

cautions?

increases fracture risk
GI infection risk e.g. h.pylori
mask symptoms of gastric cancer: red flag- rule out before treatment
OP risk

what should be advised to prevent subacute lupus? how to stop it?

avoid exposing skin to sun
discontinue PPI unless imperative for serious acid related condition
subacute so will resolve after stopping
