WHAT IS GRANISETRON?
5-HT receptor agonist
whats it used for?
nausea and vomiting
where does granisetron work
CNS and GIT
safety information about this?
patch, don’t expose site to sunlight for 10 days after use
how to administer IV?
with glucose or sodium chloride
intermittently
dilute up to 3ml in 20-50ml infusion fluid- give over 5 minutes
adverse effects of granisetron?
constipation, headache
IV and oral: diarrohea, insomnia
extrapyramidal symptoms
QT elongation, serotonin syndrome
examples of extrapyrimidal symptoms
behavioural changes, tremor, slurred speech, dystonia/ movement disorders
can you take while pregnant/ BF
yes pregnant but not BF
dont use in which patients
subacute intestinal obstruction, susceptibility to QT prolongation and electrolyte disturbances, hepatic impairment
