what does infliximab treat?
CD, UC, RA, psoriasis
what must you do prescreen for before use?
tb
IV infusion make up?
give intermittently in sodium chloride
100mg vial in 10ml water and gently swirl to dissolve
allow this to stand for 5 minutes then add to infusion fluid to a final volume of 250ml
who shouldnt recieve infliximab?
heart failure or severe infection
adverse effects of infliximab
Arrhytmias, chest pain, GI effects, eye inflammation, fever, abscess, anaemia, arrhythmias, agranulocytosis, myocardial infarction/ ischaemia, stroke, vision loss
Blood disorders: seek attention if blood disorder symptoms e.g. fever, sore throat, bruising or bleeding
Hypersensitivity reaction:
blood disorders signs and symptoms
fever sore throat, bruising or bleeding
monitoring requirements of infliximab
skin exams for non-melanoma skin cancer- especially if risk factors
monitor for infection before during and 6 months after
monitor for symptoms of delayed hypersensitivity if re-administered after a long period
after IV infusion how must patients be observed?
for 1-2 hours with resuscitation equipment available
can it be given in pregnancy? BF?
no need adequate contraception for at least 6 months after last dose
not in milk
only use in pregnancy if essential
what to do if you have TB?
treat for 2 months before starting then monitor every 3 months for possible recurrence
advise for patients taking?
look out for blood disorder symptoms: sore throat, bruising or bleeding, fever
hypersensitivity reaction such as fever, chest pain, hypo/hypertension
TB symptoms: persistent cough, weight loss, fever
caution in?
demyelinating disorders, colon carcinoma, dysplasia, prolonged immunosuppressant treatment in psoriasis, HF, infection predisposition,
