nucleus Flashcards
what are the two ways DNA is stored
euchromatin: lose packed DNA which is easily acessible by transcription machinary
hetrochromatin: tight packed DNA, not used
dynamic equilibrium as genes are in use and not in use
how is DNA packaged
2nm fibers bind with histone 2-4 to form nucleosomes making a 10nm fiber. then with histone 1 to form a 30nm fiber, which futher fold toa 300nm fiber.
when cell division this forms a metaphase cromosome
discribe the nucleopore complex
nucleoporins form a nucleopore complex which is a chanel which streaches the inner membrane through the perinuclear space through the outermembrane space
what is able to travel through the nuclear pore complex, into nucleaus and out of nucleaus
into: Energy, building blocks of ribosomes, signals
out of: ribosomal subunit, tRNA, mRNA
What is the function of the nucleolus
the nucleolus makes ribosomal sub units such as ribosomal protins and RNA.
ribosomes are made outside in the cytosol
they can have multiple in a cell
doesnt have any when cell is dividing
how is the nuclear envelope comprised
outer membrane-> perinuclear space -> inner membrane -> lamina (intermediate filaments which maintain shape)
what is the job of the nucleus
to store most of the cells DNA
to be the comand center to the cell
5-10um in diameter
what does the nucleolus make
how it it bound
ribosomeal RNA and ribsomal sub units
non-membrane bound regoin
