Eucarya animal plant cells Flashcards
Cell functions
maufacture cellular material
produce energy
obtain raw material
remove waste
self regulate
jobs of the cell membrane
let in nutriance + O2
let out waste
why is cell size limited
volume grows faster than surface area
what is the makeup of the plasmamembrane
2 layers of phospholipids, hydrophillic heads on inside and outside edge. fatty acids make the hydrophobic interior. attached/imbedded are membrane proteins
can a protein have more than one function
yes
saturated vs unsatureated membrane
how to fix
saturated is when the phospholipids are tightly packed. unsaturated is when the tails prevent tight packing. cholestrol can stabilise.
there is only 1 protein per cell wall
no
membrane protein jobs
signal transduction
cellular linking
joining cytoskeleton to extracellular matrix
membrane transfer
cell recognition
what is passive diffusion
when a hydrophobic substance travels down its diffusion gradient
what is passive facilitated diffusion
when a hydropillic substance (ions/glucose) uses carrier or chanel proteins to travel down a diffusion gradient
what is active method to pass through
this is when atp is used to move substances against their diffusion gradient
what is co diffusion
using a substance traveling into the cell on its diffusion gradient, travels with, then atp pushes the 1st substance back
what are the two plant specific organells
chloroplast, central vacuole
why are membrane enclosed organells good
package substances for traspost or waste
provide conditions for specific functions
keep incompatible functions sperate
enables substances to be concentrated
create concentration gradient
shared organells between plant/ animal cells
nucleus, mitocondria, goli apparatus, endoplasmic renticulum
