- Infant - nutrient led
- Child - GH hormone led
- Pubertal - Steroid hormone lead
When is length measured and when is height measured?
Length used for children <2 years
Height used for children >2 years
What triggers the onset of puberty?
Release of GnRH from the hypothalamus
What influence does leptin have on the start age of puberty?
Start age of puberty is lowered. Those who are overweight have more leptin due to more fat. Leptin increases release of gonadotrophins.
What is the Tanner staging a marker of?
Marker of sexual maturity
According to Tanner staging - when is the onset of puberty in boys?
When testicular volume >4ml

When Tanner stage 2 has been reached
Height difference between males and females is a result of what?
- Greater peak height velocity (PHV) in males
- Delayed PHV in boys
- Greater pre-pubertal height in males compared to females
