Non opioids Flashcards
non opioid pain drug characteristics
no tolerance/dependence. ceiling to analgesia. most antipyretic
which are not antipyretic
aspirin (only high dose) and acetaminophen (never)
aspirin MOA
block cycloxygenase. Platelet inhibition is irreversible and requires low dose (vs high dose for antipyretic)
Aspirin side effects
GI bleed, renal, hypersensitivity (asthma!!), tinnitus, Reyes.
NSAIDS MOA
block cyclo
MSAIDS effects
analgesic, antipyretic, anti inflam
NSAIDS adverse
mainly same as aspirin, but pregnancy risk
misoprostol
cytotec. prostaglandin E analog, protect stomach lining, but ABORTIVE- usually use prilosec
cox 2 inhibitor example
celebrex
cox 2 effects
analgesic, antipyretic, anti inflam
cox 2 aderse
CARDIOVASC risk- alter T: P ratio (but less GI/platelet risk)
acetaminophen
MOA unknown, analgesic and antipyretic but NOT anti inflam
acetaminophen adverse
hepatotoxic- N acetyl Epstein neutralizes to save overdose - NAPQi
corticosteroids MOA
transcription factor, decrease arachidonic acid formation (decrease leuk and prosta)
steroid adverse chronic
decreased immune, adrenal, osteoporosis, fat redistribution
