A
- Dilates vessels in peripheral circulation resulting in:
a. DECREASED PERIPHERAL RESISTANCE
B. DECREASE BP - DECREASE WORKLOAD ON HEART
- DILATES CORONARY ARTERIES
- Dilates vessels in smooth muscle
- Improves CO in patients with CHF

- 1-3 min

A
- Chest pain

A
- BP100

Nitroglycerin precautions
A
- With S&Sy of AMI limit BP drop to 10% of baseline or 30% if hypertensive
- ED drugs

Nitroglycerin dosage and administration
A
ACS dose: .4mg SL every 5 min x 3 with BP > 100, total max dose = 2mg
CHF dose:
a. distress and BP >100 - .4mg SL every 3-5 min, total max dose 2mg

Nitroglycerin adverse reaction
A
Hypotension, headache, flushing

A
Cardiac (chest discomfort, ACS)
Respiratory (difficulty breathing)
