A
- Maintains magnesium levels
- Reduce muscle contractions but interfering with the release of acetylcholine at the myoneural junction
- Stabilized cell membranes and hyperkalemia

- PREECLAMPTIC AND ECLAMPSIA SEIZURES
- VENTRICULAR ARRHYTHMIAS DUE TO DIG TOXICITY AND TRICYCLIC OD
- TORSADES
- RESPIRATORY DISTRESS (ASTHMA)

Mag contraindications
A
- IMPAIRED RENAL FUNCTION
- Myocardial damage or heart block
- DIALYSIS
- Hypocalcemia

A
2-4ml SLOW IV push over 5 min

A
- CNS; week reflexes, Flaccid paralysis, hypothermia, drowsiness
- CV: slow week pulses., Hypertension, Flushing, monitor ECG continuously
- Respiratory depression
- Antidote is calcium chloride
