Q

what if forced used for?

A
  • Get objects moving
  • Stop objects moving
  • Change the direction of a moving object
  • Change the speed of a moving object
  • Balance another force to keep an object still

Q

what is internal force?

A
  • Structures of the body that interact to produce movement

E.g. The action of muscles and tendons that act together to produce forces that cause movement

Q

what is external force?

A

Result from the interaction between the body and the environment.

  • Gravity
  • Friction
  • Air resistance
  • Water resistance

Q

what are the two types of external forces?

A
contact
- forces that act on objects that come into direct contact with one another
= friction
= air resistance
= water resistance

non contact
- forces that act on objects without coming into direct contact with one another
= gravity

7
Q

what is intertia?

A

describes the amount of resistance to a change in an object’s state of motion.

large mass = large force needed
small mass = small force needed

8
Q

what is Newton’s 2nd law?

A

The acceleration of a body is proportional to the force applied to it and inversely proportional to the mass of the object
= greater the force = the faster the acceleration will be.
