fitness components Flashcards
what is cardiorespiratory endurance?
cardiovascular and respiratory systems ability to perform over.a long period of time without fatiguing
what is muscular strength?
- max force that can be generated by a muscle or muscle group
- ability to exert force and power against an object
what is muscular endurance?
ability of the muscle or muscle group to perform repeated contractions for an extended period of time wihtout fatiguing
what is flexibility?
range of motion around a joint
what are the two types of flexibility ?
static = stationary dynamic = during movement
what is body composition?
the components that make up a persons body weight
what are the two components of body composition?
Fat free mass = bones, water, muscle & connective tissue, organs and teeth
Fat mass = essential & non essential fat stores
- Essential fat - found in vital organs & is required for normal physiological functioning
- Non essential fat - found in adipose tissue
what is muscular power?
ability to exert a maximal contraction wuickly or in one explosive effort
power = strength x speed
what is coordination?
- Refers to the skilful and effective interaction of movements.
- the ability to use the body’s senses to execute motor skills smoothly & accurately.
what is balance and what are the two types?
maintaining an equilibrium while stationary or moving
- static
- dynamic
what is agility?
The ability to change body position or direction quickly and accurately while maintaining balance and speed
what is speed?
- The rate of motion
- how fast you can move your body part from one point to another
what is reaction time?
The time from the presentation of a stimulus to the onset of a response
what is response time?
the time taken from the presentation of a stimulus to the completion of the movement
what is movement time?
the time taken from the initiation of the movement to the completion of the movement
