Periorbital (preseptal) cellulitis
Mild infection of the eyelid anterior to the orbital septum. Can present with fever and eyelid erythema/edema.
Does not extend beyond orbital septum. No signs of ophthalmoplegia.
S&S open angle glaucoma
Loss of peripheral vision
Enlargement of the optic crup
Increased cup/ disc ratio
Steroid induced:
central blurriness
Subcapsular cataracts (late)
Glucocorticoids and open angle glaucoma
Topical steroid eyedrops and systemic steroids can raise intraocular pressure due to decrease outflow via drainage channels in the anterior chamber.
S&S optic pathway glioma
Decreased visual acuity alteration in color vision Optic nerve atrophy Proptosis Neurofibromatosis 1
Risks candida endophthalmitis
Hospitalization w/ Central venous Cath TNP immunocompromised Broad spectrum abx recent abdominal surgery
S&S candida endophthalmitis
Unilateral Floaters Progressive loss of vision Eye pain (late) Fluffy yellow-white mound like lesions on fundoscopy Systemic symptoms (mild- none)
Diagnosis candida endophthalmitis
Fundoscopic findings
Blood cultures
Vitreous fluid sampling + culture
Tx candida endophthalmitis
Systemic antifungals
vitreous antifungal injection
Vitrectomy
S&S allergic conjunctivitis
Always bilateral
Watery discharge
Mild crust
Ocular pruritus
Hx. atopic disease
Treatment allergic conjunctivitis
Allergen avoidance
Antihistamines
Mast Cell Stabilizers
