When does this syndrome occur?
A
It could occur any time a client is on anti-psychotic medication, most commonly when treatment begins or doses are increased

What are the signs of N.M.S.?
A
Tachycardia- extreme fever, altered LOC, seizures, muscle rigidity, elevated lab values (e.g., (WBC/ LFT)

What is the treatment?
A
Discontinue the medication. Initiate safety and seizure precautions. Give antipyretics to reduce fever.
