Neuroanatomy Flashcards
Spinal nerves serving the upper limbs?
Brachial plexus.
Spinal nerves serving the lower limbs?
Lumbar plexus.
What can the peripheral nervous system be split into?
Somatic and Autonomic nervous system.
What is the somatic nervous system?
Neurones that are concerned with detecting changes in the external environment, or with the control of movement.
What can the autonomic nervous system be split into?
Sympathetic and parasympathetic.
What is the autonomic nervous system?
Neurones involved in detecting changes and controlling the activity of internal organs.
Neurones that carry signals toward CNS?
Afferent neurones.
Neurones that carry signals away from CNS?
Efferent neurones.
Regions of brain enriched with nerve cell bodies?
Grey matter.
Regions of brain enriched with nerve cell that are myelinated axons?
White matter.
What are the 3 sections the brain is divided into?
hindbrain, midbrain and forebrain
Within the cerebral hemisphere lie several large nuclei called?
Basal ganglia.
Spinal nerves leave the vertebral canal through small apertures called?
intervertebral foramina.
Name of four lobes in each cerebral hemisphere?
Frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital.
Where is the cerebral cortex?
Outer layer that lies on top of your cerebrum.
