How long does it take the ductus arterious and foramen ovale to close?
First few minutes of life
Happens when they cry by oxygenation and ventilation.
What is the first stage of labor?
Begins with the first true contraction and ends with full dilation of the cervix
How long does contractions last?
They are regular and last between 5 - 15mins. And they last upto 18 hours.
What is the second stage of labor?
Begins with full dilation of the cervix and ends with delivery of baby.
2-4 minutes of contractions.
This stage lasts to 1-2 hours.
What is the third stage of labor?
Begins at the end of delivery of baby to end of delivery of placenta.
Lasts no longer than 30 mins
What is the criteria of imminent delivery?
Contractions (2 - 4mins )
Crowning
Pernieal bulge
Urge to bare down
Mom says so
What are the 4 M’s
Meconium
Medication
Multipara
Maturity
What is a premature and a postmature baby?
Less than 37 weeks is premature
More than 42 is postmature
Where to cut umbilical cord?
At 6 and 9 inches
How to manage breech birth?
Have someone apply suprapubic pressure to maintain flexion of fetal head. If no progression for 2-3 minutes, place fingers in a V and transport.
What is shoulder dystocia?
Should be assumed if there is no forward progress of the neonates delivery.
Perform McRoberts maneuver for it.
Should oxygen be given to neonates for NRP?
No as it is proven to have long term consequences for lung development.
What is the major cause for resuscitation for neonates?
Meconium aspiration
What are some complications for neonates?
Respiratory depression
Cardiovascular system compromise
Thermo regulation
